Whew! Life has been a bit crazy around here. The summer was much busier than I expected and I feel kind of behind on my quilty work. Well, the kids are back to school, vacations are in the rearview mirror, I am rested and fired up for some fall sewing! How about you?
I want to share the newly revised Whimsy Garden quilt pattern with you today. This has been a favorite in my pattern shop, and now it’s better than ever. The entire pattern got a makeover, including added instructions for cutting with the Classic Curves Ruler. No more templates to slow you down.
Whimsy Garden is a unique make on the classic orange peel design (one of my all time favorite shapes) that includes curved piecing as well as appliqué. Even if you don’t care much for appliqué, my quick and easy technique for stitching these circles just might get you addicted. The pattern includes three sizes: baby, throw, and queen.
My sample was made with fabrics from my stash in bright colors, including some from Alison Glass, Emma Jean Jansen and Art Gallery Fabrics. My favorite part might be that black and white handwritten text print by Carolyn Friedlander that I used for the background.
One of my goal finishes this summer is a second Whimsy Garden quilt I started last spring using fabrics from Art Gallery Fabrics’s Garden Dreamer and Sage collections. I like the sweet softness in this version. I will be teaching Whimsy Garden as one of the projects at the Lakeside Quilting Retreat September 8-9. If you are interested in joining, see this post.
I can’t wait to see your makes of the Whimsy Garden quilt! What color and fabric style will you choose? To get your copy of the pattern right in your inbox today, click here.

Oh, this is beautiful! Love the softer version too.
I’m with you, Sharon! That text text print really sets off those vibrant blocks making a gorgeous quilt.
This is such a beautiful quilt. I love the bright colors. Sure wish I was confident with curves!
Gosh this is super!
Wonderful just wish I had time to make one! Maybe next year for me. Oh dear!
Hi Sharon, I already have the Whimsy Garden pattern. Would I be able to use the old pattern with the ruler or would I need to purchase the new version of the pattern?
