Last week I had a bit of fun on my instagram and Facebook pages, a follow up to my last blog post about the Pink quilt. Instead of my usual quilt-of-the-day posts, I showed you all one piece of the Pink quilt -my current favorite- like a puzzle piece. Because sometimes (a lot of time, in my case), you gotta keep things interesting by getting a little goofy. The cool thing…I planned it so that once all the ‘pieces’ of the quilt were posted at the end of the week, you could see the whole quilt on my Instagram feed. I thought that was pretty clever (-: Go check it out here and appreciate how cool it looks.
Well, it’s time to show you the finished quilt and tell you why it’s super special…
The new Classic Curves Plus ruler started shipping from the shop last month and I am absolutely thrilled with your response! Can’t wait to see what you make. In the lead-up to the release, A LOT of effort went into planning how to show and tell you all about the new Classic Curves Plus ruler and get everyone excited to try it. I can tell you all about how wonderful it is, how easy it makes curved piecing quilts, all day long, but the best way to really convey how remarkable this ruler is to SHOW you…and the Pink quilt was born.
This quilt includes curved shapes in 19 different sizes. That’s how many cutting sizes you get from the Classic Curves Plus ruler. The smallest is 3 1/2″ and the largest is 12 1/2″. That’s the radius – if you are talking diameter, we can make circles that are 26″ wide!
So, I guess what I’m trying to say is ‘how amazing is it that I made this entire quilt with ONE template?’ No other template set for curved piecing allows you to sew this many different sizes with a single tool. It literally replaces dozens of individual templates.
That means saving a serious chunk of change when you consider buying one versus 19 different template sets. And that’s just for quarter circles.
If you’ve been around here for long, you probably noticed that my usual pattern style leans more traditional than ‘modern’ – negative space and improv or abstract designs aren’t really my thing – and that’s partly why this quilt is so exciting! I made improv…and I like it (-:
Not sure if I’m the first to think of it or name it, but I am calling this technique ‘precision piecing, improv design’. For all those who appreciate clean piecing and craftsmanship, but want to try for the 100% unique only-you-can-make improvised look. I think this quilt is perfect!
Last month I did my first in-person (zoom) virtual workshop on curved piecing and how to use the Classic Curves Rulers and it was a BLAST! big thanks to those who came and there seemed to be interest in doing it again. I’m thinking it would be fun to do a quilt along, including some live meet ups and how-to demos, so everyone can make their own ‘precision / improv’ curvy quilt like Pink.
What do you say?
happy sewing,
Your Pink quilt is FABULOUS!!
Sharon, I’m blown away… your Pink quilt is absolutely stunning!!
