Sew Impressive! Cute PomPom Quilts

Earlier this month, PomPoms, the newest pattern for the Classic Curves Ruler, was sent out into the world and I am so excited to show you a few examples of cute quilts started with it so far.

PomPoms is easy as far as curved piecing goes. Despite its looks, the blocks are quick to sew up and a great shape for showing off pretty colors and fabrics. In my original PomPom quilt, I used Tula Pink dots and stripes in coordinating colors. This way, each block was half stripes and half polka dots in the same color. You could use coordinating fabrics like I did, or create your own unique look like these quilters did.

Zina (@zanymouse) made her PomPom blocks with fabrics in two shades of similar color. These cute prints by designer Karen Lewis (Robert Kaufman fabrics) are perfect for this project. They have a bit of interest in the basic prints, but the strong color makes the shapes really stand out. I am loving the direction this is going! Wouldn’t it be a great quilt to make PomPom blocks with two color combinations of all the colors  in rainbow order from top to bottom?

Julie chose to make her PomPoms with Halloween fabrics…and how cute is this? I love that she made it big enough to be a cozy wrap on cool fall nights. I have wanted to make another one using all the same light fabrics for the background (my original one is scrappy low-volume fabrics). Seeing Julie’s and how crisp it looks with strong contrast between the light and the PomPom shapes makes me want to even more! If you are a collector of holiday fabrics, this might just be the perfect inspiration to get them out and make something useful to show them off.

Marija (@mvquilts) went all out! It’s so cool to see how this design looks with a dark background and more moody colors. Plus, aren’t the scrappy blocks fun? This version really feels good for this time of year with the Burgundy, gold and dark coral. It’s like the colors of a maple tree in October. This also feel different from Marija’s usual look in quilts so it’s fun to see her get so creative and try a totally new look with the PomPom pattern.

I’ve said it before, but I really do love seeing what you all make with Color Girl patterns and the Classic Curves Ruler. Please do be sure and share with me!

As September winds down, we are looking ahead to new projects. On Tuesday I told you about starting a new Super Simple Sampler as a gift for my friend. If you have scraps and are looking for a new project, join me to sew along! I’ll post more details about the quilt layout I have planned, choosing fabrics and more this coming week.

Happy Sewing,
