Catch the Metro -Quilt Pattern, that is.

Although I’m always sorry to see the pretty colors and temperatures go (not really a fan of winter here), it’s still a good day when I can share a new quilt pattern, and this one is REALLY fun. I think you will like it!

Introducing Metro. The latest pattern for the Classic Curves Plus ruler and my version of a classic ring quilt design. Metro brings the traditional double wedding ring to modern quilters with chunky pieces and strategic color placement to make the rings look interlocking; and, just as you’d expect from my patterns – it’s much easier than it looks to sew 😎.

It has been on my to-do list for quite a while to create an adaptation of the all time favorite double wedding ring design. It’s a classic design that many quilters include on their making bucket list. The drawback: the traditional pattern uses fussy templates (several of them!) and takes a skilled hand – and LOTS of patience – to sew. The new Metro pattern gives you the chance to capture the graphic good looks of curvy interlocking rings, made easy with the Classic Curves Plus ruler.

The original quilt features solid color fabrics. You don’t need very much of each color, except the background, so this could be an excellent stash buster or fat quarter bundle quilt. The pattern includes instructions and fabric quantities for three sizes. This is going to be a fun one to play with color palette. I used kind of mid-century modern vibing colors, but it’s going to look great in any favorite color combination for baby, wall hanging, or bedroom.

Okay, so that’s all about the new Metro pattern, but guess what? You know I can’t resist showcasing pattern versatility and this one is no different. My mom very kindly tested the pattern and made a scrappy version that is To Die For. What do you think?

Swoon, right? This one features pieces from my little stash of Jen Kingwell prints (plus a few other scraps). I like the vintage-y look, and know it would look fabulous in any combination of scraps or designer collection. So now it’s a touch decision: will you go modern with the original Metro look or traditional with the scrappy classic look for YOUR Metro quilt?

Pattern does require use of the Classic Curves Plus ruler -or- if you have a pre-2023 Classic Curves Ruler (one with 8 1/2″ cutting size), you can use that too. The pattern includes instructions for making both the planned, interlocking ring layout as well as the scrappy version.

Hope you have as much fun with Metro as I have had making it for you!

Happy Sewing,
