Quilt in Progress…and CLASS coming up

Still in a curvy frame of mind over here! These last days of October are kind of a whirlwind of activity and it’s the best kind: meeting some of you in person and on Zoom, teaching the Classic Curves Ruler and curved piecing.

Two days ago it was the Bloom pattern, an in-person class at my local quilt shop in Dublin, Ohio. We had a fantastic *big* group of ladies of all kinds of tastes and skills. I always love seeing patterns come to life in different colors and fabrics!

This week is the second session of the Precision Piecing; Improv Design quilt class on Zoom. It’s not too late to join us! This class is also available as a fully digital/video work-at-your-own-pace class.

BUT. Today, I am all about the SUNBEAM. This quilt never fails to make me smile, and I cannot wait to have my first class with this pattern. So far, I’ve made two cute versions of this pattern and now working on the third as my class demo sample. Is it weird that I make quilt patterns over again to try different color styles? It’s amazing how different a pattern looks with a different style of fabric.

So, for next week’s classes and the videos that go with them, I’ve been working on a new Sunbeam using my Tilda fabrics collection. I have to say, I can’t resist how cute these fabrics look! I love that although the pattern is pretty modern in design, it looks fantastic in more traditional and feminine fabrics too.

For this version, I’m going with a scrappy look so each sunbeam block will include a random variety of prints for the ‘beams’ and a blue ‘sun’. It feels really good to get out the Tilda fabrics I’ve been collecting for a couple years and see them turn into a quilt! I’ve made several of the block components and a couple full blocks as I work through filming demonstrations showing each step of the pattern. I think it’s coming along nicely.

The Sunbeam class includes the Sunbeam quilt pattern and two live meetings via Zoom. In the live classes, I will demonstrate each step to making the quilt, starting with basic paper piecing then curves, and a simple applique technique. This is a really fun quilt to make and an excellent ‘step up’ for those who feel confident with the basics of curves and are ready for more options. In addition to the live meetings, the class includes three videos featuring step-by-step instruction so you can review as much as you need to finish your Sunbeam quilt.

I’m excited to meet those of you already enrolled! Hope these variations inspire more to join us. This quilt can be made with either the Classic Curves Ruler or the Classic Curves Plus ruler.

One pattern and three really unique quilts! Of these shown here, which is your favorite? I don’t think I can choose.

I love both of the solid colored ones. The one with Tilda prints intrigues me because I love working with prints. But I think the blue overshadows those gorgeous prints. Now I’ll be thinking about how to design it so the prints are the highlights. Looking forward to seeing what the class comes up with!

I love comments! thanks for stopping by.
