Your Quilting Skills Toolbox: Curved Piecing

Quilters far and wide have heard the good news: the Classic Curves Ruler is the ideal tool for making curved piecing a skill in your quilt making toolbox.

You know the saying, “if I had a nickel for every time…”

someone said, “Curves are scary!” or “I never thought I could sew curves” or “I’m a beginner, I can’t sew curved seams!”

I’d be a wealthy woman (-:

So, here’s what I say: You CAN add circles and curved shapes to your quilts and you WILL succeed! You are always more likely to enjoy learning a new skill when you have the right tools and instructions to set you up for success.

The Classic Curves Ruler has been a favorite of quilters for six years and now we are celebrating the arrival of the second generation: the all new Classic Curves Plus – featuring options to cut larger blocks – and the redesigned Classic Curves Ruler – for cutting smaller curved pieces – to give you even more options.

“how can you be sure I’ll be successful sewing curves with the Classic Curves Ruler?” the unique design and cutting concept of the CCR means that your fabrics pieces will fit together perfectly for sewing – seam allowance is included so there’s no struggle when you sew and minimal trimming – and result in flat, true blocks every time. No need to “cut big and trim” means less wasted fabric and easier sewing for you.

I know that quilting rulers are an investment. They aren’t inexpensive…so the value is in versatility. Most templates you purchase for making quilts featuring blocks like drunkards path (quarter circles), orange peels, rings and clams are limited to making a single block or shape in a single size.

When I first fell in love with sewing curved blocks in my quilts, I was drafting or printing pattern templates, cutting them out and using the paper shapes to cut fabric for the quilts. Unfortunately, this system requires you to make new templates for every new pattern that uses a different shape or a different size. As I started writing my own quilting patterns that included curved shapes, I knew that we needed a single ruler that could be used for all the shapes and a number of sizes. This would eliminate the struggle in cutting fabric with paper templates and save time and money by not needing to make new templates over and over or buy a new set for every pattern.

Yes, ALL the curved pieces in the quilts shown in these photos were cut with the CCR and/or CCRplus.

So, the Classic Curves Ruler was born in 2017. And now in 2023, after years of use, your suggestions for improvements, and new ideas for even greater versatility, the Classic Curves Plus arrives along with a new redesign of the original CCRuler. You will not find a set of templates, or another single ruler that will give you this many options for the price.
