For those of you following and participating in the Color Girl Challenge this month, here is an update! One of my projects I set out to finish this month can now be moved to the “finish” column. Wahoo.
I started this quilt last winter when I got some of the Diving Board fabrics by Alison Glass. I am a huge fan of her fabrics and color choices and I wanted to make something super vibrant. This is also a fun pattern for trying out a new shape to sew with the the Classic Curves Ruler. The design actually evolved as I was making it. The original pattern didn’t come together the way I wanted, but I like this final design the best! It reminds me of retro mod flowers. What do you think?
The choice of black for the “background” makes the prints seem really bright. I think it would be interesting to play a bit with placement to emphasize the pretty shape and pattern created by the black pieces. There are a lot of shapes here that could make interesting new patterns by changing up the color and value placement.
I pieced this pretty quilt with Aurifil thread. I use a 50 weight neutral color. The quilting, with transparent thread, was done by Darby Myers of Quilted Squid. It’s finished with Hobbs Wool Batting, and my favorite black and white stripe binding (-:

Wow! This is such a beautiful and fun quilt. Love the colors as well as the design. You’re right, the black really and white really makes the colors pop.
