An Unidentified Quilt

You can’t go wrong with polka dots on quilts, right? I would like to introduce you to my “Unidentified” quilt, in all its polka dot, bright colorful splendor! Now, I know it seems like I have had tons of finished quilts to show lately, and before you get too impressed, you have to understand that many of them were made over the course of the past year. I made this quilt last June (almost a year!) and I am so happy to finally share it.

“Unidentified” is featured in this month’s issue of Quilt Now, hitting subscribers this week in the UK and coming to the US soon. When I created the design for this one, I specifically wanted to make something really simple, with modern lines, that showed off the cute polka dot fabrics. I absolutely love these dots! Most of them are from the Michael Miller Fabrics collection, “ta dot”, and some are by Kaffe Fassett. These are my favorites because they come in tons of colors, and great (unusual) combinations of colors. They are so bright and cheery, and perfect for adding to any patchwork quilt palette.

The striped background effect created by combining  Kona white and natural linen. I love how the linen adds some texture and the color is a great foil for the super bright polka dot prints. I quilted this one very simply using Aurifil thread in off-white in straight vertical lines along the seams. The simple quilting left he quilt with a really nice, loose drape.

If you would like to make your own version of “Unidentified”, look for Quilt Now, issue 11, coming soon!!
