It seems like so many quilts have come to fruition in the last couple of months! I have had so many new patterns to share with you all at once, but let me assure you that all these are the product of months of sewing and writing…they just seemed to get published back-to-back. When it rains, it pours, right?
I received my copy of issue 11 of Quilt Now Magazine recently and it contains a really simple, but fun to make quilt pattern that I designed and sewed last summer. I wrote about this quilt in a previous post, Here. I was stuck on what to call it, so it was “Unidentified”, but Katy Jones helped me out and named it “Spectrum” for the magazine feature. I like it!
I used an array of polka dot prints in bright colors with white and linen for the background, but I think this could be a fun pattern to experiment with color placement or showcase a set of favorite prints.
This issue has lots of beginner (or quick) projects…in addition to my Spectrum quilt, there is a small project for English Paper Piecing hexagons, complete with full instructions to get you started if you haven’t tried EPP yet. The star quilt on the cover is Foundation Paper Pieced, a nice basic block to start with if you are new to that technique as well.
My favorite pattern in Quilt Now issue 11 is this scrappy star quilt by Nadine Saupe (this creative bliss). It uses 5″ squares…perfect for pre-cut charm packs or scraps in your stash. I love the clean look of the piecing on the white background. It would also be fun with low volume prints for the background and solid colors for the stars!
