One of my goals since I started publishing quilt patterns in magazines was to have one featured in American Patchwork and Quilting. This month, that dream came true in a big way! Not only is my Wavelength quilt pattern inside, the quilt I made is on the cover! yea!
I am especially excited because I really love this quilt…I enjoyed every minute of making it because it is so “me”. Why? just look at all the fun fabrics!
One of my favorite ways to choose fabrics for a quilt is to create a very limited color palette, but use tons of variety within that palette. Here, I started with the blue and gold and cream color scheme. But rather than using just three or a few fabrics, I threw in the whole kitchen sink! Using lots of different prints like this could have been overwhelming, but because they all fit a basic color scheme, it works.
This look also works well with solids: just choose an array of shades and values in your chosen color. It gives the quilt a really neat look (here is a quilt where I did this concept with solids/almost solids batiks).
The current (June 2017) issue of American Patchwork and Quilting is on newsstands everywhere (I even saw it in my grocery store the other day, how cool is that?!). The pattern also features two color options, so you can see how the design looks in other styles. My sample was quilted by Darby at Quilted Squid with a simple straight line pattern for texture. I use Aurifil thread for all my piecing and finish with Hobbs batting. I would love to see how you interpret this pattern in your own color and fabric taste!

Fell in love with this quilt. Immediately began pulling blues and oranges. Needed to supplement lights with trip to local quilt store. A lot of cutting is involved but definitely easy to do with your great directions. While I am basically following your color layout I certainly think the options are great too.
Ran out to buy it right away, it is everything you said and more!! Starting to build my fabric on the weekend.
I love thisquilt and picked up the magazine right away. I am working on the pattern now and have a question, I may be reading the pattern incorrectly but when I get to step 6, making units 7&8 I should be making mirror images. When I make the units according to the pattern they are backwards. What am I doing wrong?
Can you tell me if this quilt pattern is jelly roll friendly?
