Quilting in Blue and White

blue and white curved piecing quilt by Sharon McConnell

I am starting a new series of quilts for patterns in 2017 and they will have lots of fun new ways to use my favorite curved piecing! This week I started something new and something I haven’t done in a long time: a two color quilt.

I had a layer cake of this collection of all blues and gray/white prints (Moda Fabrics, 2016), so I thought, “why not just keep them together and go with a monochromatic scheme?”. Blue and white is a perennial favorite and I figured it would challenge me a bit to keep my project to such a limited palette.

I am using the darkest blue squares as the focus and adding contrasting curves in all four corners. The ‘medium’ prints are going in as the curved shapes, making a circle design where the blocks come together. My hope is that using a variety of prints in different values will add a bit of depth and movement to the finished design.

White corners finish the blocks…and I am loving how these are coming together! The curves are relatively small, but still super easy to piece.

So my new series and larger project plan is off to a great start! Can’t wait to share more.

Happy Holidays, all!

Sharon

It’s looking great Sharon!! And it’s going to be fun to see you do a basically 2 color quilt! 😉 What fabric line is it? I don’t recognize it. Have a wonderful Christmas!! Hugs, H

Love the colors. I’m intrigued with this version of piecing — center piece is whole!?! Also, is that a 1/4″ seam around the block after you add the white corners? Can’t wait to see more!!

I love comments! thanks for stopping by.
