Let it Bloom! New Fabric, New Pattern

There is some pretty new fabric in town…and it demands *just* the right quilt pattern to show off! It’s my turn for the Aura Fabrics tour to showcase projects with the latest collection by ever-so-talented Mathew of Mister Domestic.

The Flowering Snowball is one of my all time favorite traditional quilt designs and I have long wanted to recreate it with the Classic Curves Ruler. It took some imagination since the original Flowering Snowball requires several fussy templates to accomplish. I also wanted to simplify it to make sewing it achievable for the average quilter **without tears** (-:

And so….Aura fabrics, meet the Classic Curves Ruler, a  love of curved piecing & a classic design:  you all make the perfect Bloom Quilt!

Mathew’s inspiration for the Aura fabrics came from a trip he took to Hawaii. I’m loving this fabric because Hawaii is our family’s favorite vacation! We love going to the Big Island for the beautiful snorkeling. My absolute favorite thing about snorkeling is seeing the sea turtles. They are such beautiful, peaceful creatures. You can probably guess which is my favorite print among the fabrics!

This collection is so much fun to sew with. I love the variety of colors and values that make it easy to mix and match the prints, even if you don’t add anything else. That is quite an accomplishment for a designer: making a self supporting collection ideal for all types of sewing projects! Mathew is such a well rounded creative person. He is proving now to be a very talented fabric designer. I’m looking forward to seeing all that he will create for us.
