Archer Quilt pattern by Sharon McConnell Color Girl Quilts, low volume and bright color fabrics

This is a fun post to write…I get to show off quilt not made by me! It’s the best to shine a spotlight on someone else for once!

I have told you pretty often that my mother is an amazing quilter…I am a quilter because she and the women before her in our family were avid quilters. She taught me to sew and keeps me inspired. Of course, since she’s my mom, she’s my biggest fan and likes to make quilts from my patterns. I love how she puts her own colorful spin on each one. The quilt above is her version of my Archer pattern…what a fantastic color variation! She is a master at fearlessly mixing fabrics and her favorite combination is “low volume” prints mixed with bright colors. My sister did the quilting on that one, so it really was a family effort (-:

Can you see how each of the borders is a different print? She has quite a collection of text prints (her fav) and has put them to good use for the backgrounds and borders for this one.

This one is hand quilted with perl cotton (like embroidery thread) in bright colors. I love how the bigger, colorful stitches stand out and create amazing texture on the quilt. For the borders, she hand quilted according to the fabric print…check out the one on the right, following the meandering lines of text! The hand quilting gives the quilt such a nice feel: very light and drapey, you just want to snuggle it.

I hope these quilts give you some inspiration! I love seeing how people remake my patterns in their own style.

your mother does a wonderful job with her quilts: I can see where you get your love of fabric from! 🙂 you are so lucky to have the family involved in your love of quilting: my mom didn’t like to sew at all, and so far, my daughters haven’t had an interest in it. not complaining too much 🙂 I just have to find my quilting buddies elsewhere!! 🙂 Have a wonderful week!! Hugs, H
