New Pattern Now Available: Gossamer Quilt

The summer heat is here and we are ready to head inside for some quality sewing time: try a new quilting pattern to show off your favorite prints paired with beautiful, vibrant solid colors. Gossamer was originally published in issue 9 of Quilt Now back in March, and was featured as the cover quilt for the “pretty” issue. I used mostly fabrics from the new range of print fabrics by Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics (also called “Gossamer”) and added several coordinating prints from my stash, all from various collections by Art Gallery Fabrics. I also used Hobbs Heirloom batting and Aurifil thread.

I love how the soft prints melt together from a distance, creating a colorful “low volume” backdrop for the bright  solids that form an interesting, interlocking cross pattern across the quilt surface. But when you look up close, there is a fabulous variety of floral and geometric prints to enjoy. The pattern comes with a queen size illustration for experimenting with your own color placement…I think it would be neat to use prints that emphasize the cross shapes of each block or the pinwheel design formed by the strips. There are some great possibilities for alternate looks within this pattern.

The Gossamer quilt pattern comes with instructions to make three sizes, from baby to queen. There are also live links within the pattern to tutorials on sewing smooth borders and applying your binding, so if you download the pattern to your tablet or laptop, you can link directly from the pattern to desired tutorials as you sew.
