A fun part of visiting relatives is seeing quilts I made for them, and it is especially great to see them using the quilts! We visited my mother-in-law in Arizona for Christmas, and I found that she had this quilt on the bed in her guest room. I was really excited to see it again because I wanted to get some pictures since I made it before I was really into photographing and logging my projects. Kind of hard to believe I made this eight years ago!
So, I made this quilt in 2006 and gave it to my in-laws for Christmas that year. The colors were inspired by the color decor in their bedroom (where the quilt resided on the bed for many years). When I set out to make the quilt, I remember going shopping for fabric and just picking out every shade of raspberry and sky blue I could find.
This was a really fun experiment in color because as I was making it, I didn’t allow myself to eliminate any fabric that fell even remotely within my scheme, even when I had serious doubts. The result is a mix of everything from hot pink to maroon and baby blue to turquoise to navy and everything in between. I love how they all mix up and blend together.
The gorgeous weather in the Phoenix area this time of year was a really welcome reprieve from our gray skies and freezing temperatures back home. The kids got to play outside (we even went to the zoo and hiking nearby trails). It also made for great photo weather!
I would really like to remake this quilt design with fabrics in my stash now. I will also be writing it up to share the pattern, I think it could be really versatile for a variety of fabric tastes and colors. Wouldn’t it be fun in prints!

What a great quilt. This would be a fun stash fabric project.
The colors just sparkle! A wonderful example of colors getting along regardless of shade. Not just getting along….celebrating together! A lesson for life!
I’d love to have directions for making this quilt.
Stunning quilt!
Is this a pineapple block? It’s really beautiful!
Housed in a transformed stable block, the gallery contains reconstructions of Victorian prison architecture, and exhibits consist of the last set of Gibbet Irons made use of in England.
That quilt is stunning! Love how the colors POP!
Fun quilt! Yeah, I love the way the ranges of color sparkle together.
It is a goregous quilt and seems appropriate that it lives in Arizona. And how fabulous that it is out and being used!
So come, play and leave whenever you please.
