Giveaway, Quilting Interest

How about a (FPP) Picnic?

It sure doesn’t feel like picnic weather, but one can hope it’s coming soon!

For this week’s blog hop with Quilting Gallery, I will say “welcome, so glad you stopped by!”

For my giveaway, I wanted to share a gift that says something about me as a quilter: I Love Paper Piecing! Would like to try it? or are you already hooked?

Over the past six months I have been working on Mariner’s Compass blocks as a personal block-of-the-month. Here is my favorite:

see my tutorials for some tips on paper piecing techniques

One of my favorite paper pieced quilts is the Village Green:

I made this a few years ago, when I was much more daring with fabric combinations and colors (you would understand what I mean if you could see some of those prints up close). It is way simpler to make than it looks.

If you like paper piecing, or want to give it a try, the book “Paper Piecing Picnic” has lots of fun projects at all skill levels. To enter the drawing,  just leave a comment. Tell me about your favorite quilting technique. I will draw a winner on March 14.

Also, I just started a small Quilt Along, check it out here

happy hopping,
Sharon

Thank you for the chance. I love paper piecing but I do struggle with how much fabric to leave at the seams, so I could definetly learn from this book.

  2. I love the look of paper pieced items but sadly they scare me. I have been doing a lot of pieced quilting and love to see the different things I can do with it.

So far I’ve only traditionally pieced my first quilt. I love to piece all the pieces of fabric together and see the design evolve. I’d love to try paper piecing, but haven’t gotten to it yet. Thanks for a chance to win! 🙂

I mostly just do regular machine piecing. However, I just recently tried paper piecing for the first time as part of two blocks of the month that I’m involved in. At first, I wanted to pull my hair out. Then I got the hang of it, finished the block, and actually liked it. Then I did the other one. Not good. I’m not giving up, but this book might really help 🙂 Just need to practice more, I’m sure. Your work is beautiful 🙂

  7. Kathy says:

Thanks for the chance to win. Favorite technique is patchwork, machine piecing. Have just recently started foundation paper piecing, and occasionally do EPP. What a great book, thanks for the chance to win. I’m in LOVE with the village green pattern! Your quilt is gorgeous. xo

  10. Gloria says:

I like paper-piecing and used it for one of my earliest quilts. That was a simple flower block in pastels for my mother-in-law.

My currents long term project is a paper-pieced New York Beautyin batiks. I use Magic Paper as it is extra thin, extra light and does not distort. It can drawn on and the beauty of it is that you don’t have to take it out! It is so thin that it doesn’t create any bulk in the seam at all, unlike normal printer paper. For me it is magic but so expensive I only use it for Heirloom projects!
Normally I use Ricky Tims PlyStable stuff as it goes through the printer!

Sorry, I seem to have written an essay!

I do machine piecing currently. I just started quilting a few years ago so I have spent my time learning as much as I could about piecing. In the past six months or more, I have seen more and more about paper piecing. It seems that it’s becoming more popular. I know it is another technique I want to learn so it may be in the next few months. It seems that anyone I see that has tried it for the first time, gets hooked immediately so it must be fun.

  44. Rhonda D. says:
