Hopeful for Spring: Fresh Quilts Book Giveaway

Granny Quilts Reproduction quilting made modern

I am feeling really charged up about quilting. I know that sounds silly because quilting is pretty much my life outside of family and home, but I do have moments when the excitement waxes and wanes. It is definitely on an upswing at the moment!

I think I am really excited about my sewing at the moment because I feel really fresh! I stopped taking on magazine projects a couple months ago in preparation for starting school, so I am now wrapping up all of my previously-made obligations. This means I am waiting (impatiently) to share some great quilts, but it also means that I feel really free to start some new things!

One of things I have made as a goal is to clean up my sewing supplies, and shed things I am finished using. When I looked through my bookshelves I found some books that I thought I would share with you readers. The first is perfect for right now: Granny Quilts, vintage quilts of the ’30s made new for today. It is colorful, sweet and fresh right when we need it most (hello, single digit temperatures!). Would you like to give this book a new home and make some fun new projects?

I am loving how this one book offers so many different projects. Are you ready to try some new shapes? how about diamonds, triangles, fans or dresden plates? Patterns are all here. One idea that has been percolating in my brain lately is a quilt design using diamonds. I have never made anything with diamonds, I am kind of fixed on that right now. It really is fun to experiment with sewing different shapes.

Granny Quilts Reproduction quilting made modern, english paper pieced grandmothers flower garden quilt

You have probably noticed the recent craze about English Paper Piecing. If you have wanted to try it, here is a classic: the Grandmother’s Flower Garden. There are about a million things you can do with these little hexagons and it’s fun to have a hand project to take along (I love the comments from people who see me sewing at my kids’ soccer practice….)

If you would like to own this book, leave a comment on this post. Is there something you are really excited about right now? What shape would you like to try in your piecing?

Now, I need to take advantage of this energy! I’ll be sewing…

Sharon

It always feels good to clean out – need to do some of that myself. I have to admit when I first scrolled through your email, I tought you were showing us a book you were putting out, I got super excited because I really, really want to make a quilt like the first one you have pictured. That quilt has been on my bucket list a long time. So, even if I don’t turn out to be the lucky winner, perhaps the winner would be willing to share that pattern with me. Wow, my post is way longer than anyone else’s.

I am not sure about a new shape because I have really not mastered the triangle or half square triangle to be exact. I just have this fear that some times (no matter the method)when I get to the pressing and squaring up they look all wonky. I really want to try to improve my outcomes on that shape. 🙂
