Many of you have probably seen the Around the World blog hop posts popping up on quilting blogs over the past year or so. I did a post as part of the tour last summer, and I was tagged again a couple of weeks ago by Amy Smart. Since most quilters (at least all the ones I asked) have already done the Around the World post, I decided to take it in a different direction and skip the part about myself and tagging future bloggers to post. I wanted to tell you about some of my favorite quilters instead.
Today, I want to introduce you to Rachaeldaisy of Blue Mountain Daisy. Rachaeldaisy (as she requests to be called online) is a quilter in Australia and someone whose style I really admire. She agreed to share some photos of her quilts with Color Girl Quilts readers.
The first time I visited Blue Mountain Daisy, she was posting about her “swoon” house mini quilt. I was smitten! I love the creativity of turning the “swoon” quilt block (pattern by Thimbleblossoms, also a traditional quilt block called Carpenters’ Wheel) into a little circle of houses!
One of the things that is fun about Rachaeldaisy’s quilting style is her “anything goes” attitude. Her Modern Wedding Ring quilt is made with denim! I like how there are lots of different denim fabrics, giving the quilt a scrappy but monochromatic background behind ultra-bright ring outlines. * the ring quilt is going on tour as part of an exhibition of wedding ring quilts! see if the show is coming to your hometown Here*
And, if you haven’t already seen it, you simply much check out her posts on this “happy as a clam” quilt masterpiece! It was recently featured in an Australian magazine, and she told me it’s funny how it has taken on quite a celebrity status. Once again, “anything goes” with this unique quilt featuring the classic clam shell design made with anything-but-classic denim and funky appliqués in each clam shell.
So you can see why Rachaeldaisy is one of my favorites and a very inspiring quilt artist! Be sure and visit Blue Mountain Daisy to see more of her fun quilts,
Sharon
