I have FINALLY finished this quilt! This one really seemed to take forever, mostly because I was slow getting the binding on. Last fall I hosted a Quilt Along with Jess (Elven Garden) in which we made the top for this. You can see all the posts for this as a Work In Progress, HERE.
This is my first quilt that I have done free motion quilting on myself. In the photo below you can see the swirly pattern on the floral border, and the leaf and swirls on the churn dashes. It is far from perfect, but I am proud of my effort, but still like my straight line quilting best.
The Midnight at the Oasis pattern is by Jen Kingwell, and it was a leap of faith for me to do this one. I usually shy away from quilts that involve appliqué, but I decided to get on my knickers and go for it. Admittedly, I skipped the border with appliqué vine and flowers, choosing instead to use my focus print with the funky flowers. I did appliqué the orange peel border, though, and really enjoyed it.
If you are thinking about trying one of the medallion quilts that are popular right now, I say “go for it!”. They are really fun, especially as an interval project when you need something fresh to work on: each border is like a new project. If is fun to plan the colors and fabrics, and for me, I love putting my own spin on some of it to make my quilt unique.
I took the photos at our school playground. Surprisingly, my littlest guy was willing to be a model!
