I usually post about the book club on the first Sunday of the month, but I was on a family trip last week, so here we go.
this month I chose “Quilting Modern” by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pederson.
If you like the look of modern improvised or “wonky” piecing, this book definitely belongs in your quilting library. There are a lot of fun projects that are quick to sew up with scraps or your latest favorite yardage.
For my book club block of the month, I took inspiration from the pattern, “Blue Ice Quilt”
and made a log cabin-type block with my bright fabrics:
I will be the first to admit that improv piecing doesn’t come naturally to me. I think it is pretty hard to pull off without looking messy or poorly made. That is why my block still has straight strips and some organization to the color. (guess I am not totally ready to jump out of the box!)

I struggle with wonky and improv too, but I think it is more from the perceived waste factor. I hate have to cut off perfectly good bits of fabric to get the wonky look.
I bought this book a few weeks ago and think it has great projects
