Hallelujah! Conversion!

This is my friend, Rissa. We met when our kids were in kindergarten together. Our boys got to be friends, and we really like each other too.

Last year, Rissa expressed an interest in learning to sew a quilt. Naturally, I was more than willing to get her started! She had never sewn, used a rotary cutter or anything before. I taught her to use my Featherweight and she has taken off.

She wanted to make a t-shirt quilt for her step-son who graduated this past spring, so that was her first quilt. We worked on it all last winter, meeting on weekend days when we could, and just barely finished it before graduation in May.

Well, I knew she was a true quilty spirit when she said she was thinking about her second quilt (one “for her”) before we had finished the first!

This summer, we have been meeting on weekends and she is making a charm quilt with my “Reflections” pattern…she loves anything mid-century modern and green….so we went shopping in my stash and found two Mod Century (Moda, Jenn Ski) charm packs, and she brought the bright green for the sashing.

Since I usually sew with only Cleo or sometimes my kids, it has been so much fun to have a friend who has converted to sewing…and she is just as excited about fabric as I am!

I am guessing she will get her blocks all sewn this Sunday. I hope you have some fun sewing time this weekend, too.

I’m sittin’ here in the “Amen Corner” nodding knowingly….it only takes one quilt, just one quilt. You tell yourself you can stop when you want to….LOL

Yay! I am so glad you have someone to sew with. And it is terrific that you have taken her under your wing. The featherweight is a great machine to learn on too. I hope yall have lots and lots of fun.

How fun to have a new quilting buddy, especially in a seasoned friend!!! Marissa and I need to meet more people in our area, and unfortunately the two guilds nearby meet at times that are just very bad for our family. We’re planning on approaching the high school principal to see if and how we can start up a community-service-oriented quilting club at the school. Sounds like fun, eh?
