When I attended Camp Stitchalot last June, I was lucky enough to win a fat quarter bundle of Tula Pink’s recent collection, “Fox Field“. Funny thing, my mom won one, too! Em used some of Mom’s bundle to make this sweet baby quilt. It is based on the pattern by Thimbleblossoms.
I decided to feature this collection for my “love fabric” post this week, because it, as well as all of Tula’s fabrics, contains such unique prints and real artistry. (Tula was at Camp with us, so I was lucky enough to have her sign my bundle). If you are familiar with her fabric, you know that Tula Pink likes to feature natural elements such as animals, flowers and water in her fabric designs. One of my favorite prints in this collections is the huge polka dot/bunny print,
There are also more realistic rabbits in one of the woodland prints, as well as foxes, birds and horses on various prints in the collections. I think it would be difficult to successfully combine basic geometric designs and flat color like in the dot print, with the detailed, dimensional woodland print, but Tula pulls this off well in all of her collections. So I started playing around with some of my favorite prints and collections that I have ready for future projects, and guess what?
These prints might be really unique, but they play well with others, too.
I absolutely adore the lacy zig-zag print from the Fox Field collection (comes in other color ways, too). It is the perfect binding fabric, but I love it with these cotton + steel pieces. It is also perfect with some of Alison Glass’s Clover Sunshine and Sun Prints collections from last year, which also have some great prints in aqua and shades of “radiant orchid”.
This blue vine print and gray geometric from Fox Field coordinate just right with Vanessa Christensen’s last collection, Color Me Happy, for Moda Fabrics. I think it is so much fun to curate little collections of fabric and think about what they might become in a quilt. I haven’t had time to start anything with my Fox Field fabric yet, but I am loving the way Em used hers and the way the prints look with others in my stash.
Look for Tula’s newest collection, “Moonshine”, coming to stores now.
Happy Quilting!
Sharon
