She’s finished. I have decided to call this quilt pattern, “Hula Girl”. It is a modern paper-foundation pieced version of the classic ring quilt. Look for this pattern in my shop so you can make your own! This quilt was pieced by my talented mother, using “low volume” scraps for the background patchwork and solids for the rings. I quilted it on my own sewing machine in a basic grid echoing the squares, and then bound it with scraps in keeping with the top.
You can see my original “hula girl” quilt Here. As you would expect from me, its a riot of color and print, and I used a different layout for the rings. I think this would be a fun design to experiment with: lots of ways you could change up the rings as well as color and value placement in this background squares.
I love how this photo shows a bit more of the patchwork: I absolutely love the variety in all those light prints! There is pretty much anything you could imagine in there somewhere. This was such a fun one to quilt, because I didn’t piece it, I really enjoyed all the different prints as they passed under my needle. Definitely not boring!
Big thank you to my mom for piecing this sample for me!
Have a great weekend! Linking up for Finish it Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts and TGIFF at ms. Midge

Love the quilt. Love the rings and the background.
Fabulous – I love this quilt!!
Beautiful quilt! I love the bright solid colors against the pale scrappy background — very effective!
I don’t recall seeing anything like this before–very difficult these days! Love it and will look forward to the pattern. 🙂
Very fun and original. If you just did 5 rings it would make a great Olympics quilt. Nice job!
Lovely!
Great colours for the rings! And the background is really interesting x
Such a beautiful quilt, Mom did an excellent job on it! And the styling with the fountain in the background is gorgeous!
Really cool quilt design! I love the solids on low vol squares.
Lovely!
Oh, I love this pattern! I love the modern twist on such a traditional pattern. It looks great!
