| “After the Rain” Quilt, by Sharon McConnell |
Put your feet up and enjoy a great read! This season’s issue of Modern Patchwork is here, and I could not be more excited to announce that I am in it! Well, my quilt and pattern are, anyway. This has been such a hard secret to keep the past six months, and I honestly I didn’t really believe it was true until I actually saw the magazine.
Look! there’s my name in print! My “After the Rain Quilt”
Last summer I sewed up this quilt using jumbo hexagons in all kinds of gray scraps plus a fun rainbow hexagon rings scattered across. It was one of the first quilts I quilted myself on my own sewing machine (and the quality thereof almost prevented me from trying to publish it (-; )
The feature in the magazine includes instructions to machine piece the hexagons….no hand piecing or EPP here! They are surprisingly easy to do and kind of addicting…it’s really fun to go beyond squares and triangles in a quilt. I taught a class at my local quilt shop on machine piecing hexagons last summer and the feedback was really good. My method for folding the pieces makes the set-in seams super easy! I will also likely post a tutorial with more detail and photos (magazine space is so limited, the instructions are not as detailed as my patterns usually are). But for now you can buy the magazine from my sponsor, Canton Village Quilt Works, or at local quilt shops and bookstores, and I hope you will!
This issue is also full of other wonderful projects…kitchen and home, quilts, and bags…I will be talking more about this magazine here in the future.
I am still smiling, and I have had the magazine since Monday!
Sharon
