I (finally) finished my Marcelle Medallion quilt top! It seemed like a long haul to get those cross blocks on for the outer border, but (non-quilting) life gets busy sometimes.
I love this view of the borders. I intentionally used light fabrics for the brick border, hoping it would contrast with the dark flying geese, but now I think it blends too much with the floral fabric border and is too Mushy. Oh, well, live and learn.
I did the brick border differently from the pattern. The instructions to make the brick border like mine are posted here.
I do love how the outer border looks, making the “background” of the crosses half light and half dark.
Guess what? In celebration of finishing this top, I am hosting another Sunday Funday giveaway with Julie at 627 Handworks.
Leave a comment on this post and I will draw one name to win the Love Quilting magazine that contains the pattern for the Marcelle Medallion and other fun patterns in addition to three cheerful fat quarters (I love that bright green with the pink, don’t you?)
if you want an idea for your comment, I would love to know if you are making or plan to make a medallion quilt (if you have a blog, I will come visit). Now, I usually respond to all comments, but due to high volume (thanks, Julie!), I will not be able to respond to all.
Be sure and come back again,
Sharon

Your medallion quilt turned out beautifully! I like the lighter brick border and the repetition of that fabric in the outer part of the quilt as in the center. The cross borders are genius!
I have never made a Medallion quilt but would love to make one because they are so pretty!!! Thanks for the chance – love all the FQs you picked for this giveaway!!
HELLO,LOVE YOUR BLOG!

Love the medallion quilt and I do like the look of the brick border even if it blends in some. The FQs you’re giving away are so bright and fun. I’m working on my first ever quilt now and have started blogging about it at http://tiesthatbindquilting.wordpress.com/.
Wow, your quilt is beautiful, I will probably not be making that kind of quilt, it looks a little hard to me. lol

Love your quilts
I thought the quilt was nice! Love the fat quarter colors as well 🙂
I made a medallion quilt Round Robin style with the Dallas MQG. I’ve started another one that will have 21 borders! The Marcelle Medallion is definitely on my list 😀
OHHHH. You medallion quilt just makes my heart beat faster! It’s awesome. I love the way that you used flowered fabric in it, and I love the mariners compass quilt with the pink floral background on your blog header too. I’ve never tried a medallion quilt, but I’m going to check out the pattern in Love of Quilting!
Two of my favorite things – fabric and flowers!
I have a medallion quilt on my ever-growing list of quilts to make at some point.
I like the way your brick border is because it gives a break to the eyes before the outside of your quilt and the plus signs.
I do love the pink/green fabrics as well.
I would love to make a medallion quilt but it is not in my plans right now. Let me get a few more quilts under my belt before attempting it.
Great job. I’m not sure I’d made one. Right now I just finished piecing a granny square quilt and am making hexagons with the scraps left from it.
I’d love to make a mariner’s compass medallion quilt someday!

I just love these medallion quilts! I definitely want to make one someday! My husband loves working on the quilt math with me (he’s a mathematician) so I know it’d be a fun quilt to make together.
I would love to make a medallion quilt and I do have a blog. I’ve got quite a few quilts on my ToDo List! Thanks for the chance to win.
I LOVE how you made your crosses border!!! I have been eyeing the MM quilt and thinking it needs to go on the list (which is really long right now, so who knows when I will actually get around to it!) it think it would look great in Christmas colors/fabrics!
What an amazing pattern. It certainly looks challenging! Thanks for the giveaway!
Very nice pattern and I love the color choice! Thanks for the giveaway!
I love the quilt – most lovely!! Thanks for the opportunity to enter the contest!
Your medallion quilt is beautiful. I have never made a medallion quilt, they look to be too difficult for me!

Gorgeous Medallion Quilt! I just ordered this book from the library thinking I might join in the QAL that is going on.
The fat quarters are pretty – love the hot pink! Thanks for the give away!
Gorgeous!!
I keep seeing medallion quilts all over, but not yet ready to try one. WOuld maybe like to do a large, paper pieced star in the center?
I love the green and pink bits that pop. What a gorgeous quilt!
Your MM is so pretty!! Great job!
Beautiful!! I love the border variations. I haven’t made a medallion quilt but would love to. Right now I am struggling to get the centre of my lone star to lay flat. It was flat…before I put on my borders. ugh
your quilt is gorgeous. I have made a medallion quilt before.
I’ve never made a medallion quilt before. maybe I would…
What a pretty quilt! I have not made a medallion quilt, but I would definitely try this one if I were the lucky winner of the Love Quilting magazine!
No, a medallion quilt is not on my quilting to-do list at the moment.
I have not made a medallion quilt before, but it is on my bucket list. Yours is great.
I have not made a medallion centered quilt yet, of course it’s on the list. I’m curious how you like that magazine?
I’d like to make a medallion quilt one day… I love your quilt! The fabrics are fabulous! 🙂
Your quilt is gorgeous! I love the color scheme that you chose. I would love to make a medallion quilt. ;). Thanks for the chance to win.
Your quilt is a winner – love the colors. I made a medallion quilt many years ago. It hung on my dining room wall for so long that now the navy fabrics in it are faded. It will always be one of my fave quilts. Thanks for the giveaway!
I have never made a medallion quilt. I would love to make one. Lovin Sunday Fundays. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway. Have a fabulous week:)
I have just started my first medallion. Gotta say the math is killing me but the quilt is a winner so far.
I have yet to attempt the medallion quilt, but I’m game to try!
A beautiful quilt and a great giveaway. Have a great time on your trip. Hugs
Love your medallion quilt. Fingers crossed that I win so I can make one of my own. Thanks for the chance.
I would love to make a medallion quilt, but I am not sure my skills are up to it yet. Would love to try though.
Your quilt is lovely. Someday I might attempt a medallion quilt.
I’m a novice quilter and haven’t made a medallion quilt yet. I think I could make one if I appliqued the medallions instead of piece them.
I have not tried a medallion quilt, yet.
Beautiful quilt. I might just try a medallion sometime soon now that I’m retired!
THis is fabulous, too – I saw the MATO first. Both exceptional.
