Marcelle Medallion QAL

Sunday Celebration: Marcelle Medallion

fabricsandflowers.blogspot.com

I (finally) finished my Marcelle Medallion quilt top! It seemed like a long haul to get those cross blocks on for the outer border, but (non-quilting) life gets busy sometimes.

I love this view of the borders. I intentionally used light fabrics for the brick border, hoping it would contrast with the dark flying geese, but now I think it blends too much with the floral fabric border and is too Mushy. Oh, well, live and learn.

I did the brick border differently from the pattern. The instructions to make the brick border like mine are posted here.

I do love how the outer border looks, making the “background” of the crosses half light and half dark.

Guess what? In celebration of finishing this top, I am hosting another Sunday Funday giveaway with Julie at 627 Handworks.

Leave a comment on this post and I will draw one name to win the Love Quilting magazine that contains the pattern for the Marcelle Medallion and other fun patterns in addition to three cheerful fat quarters (I love that bright green with the pink, don’t you?)

if you want an idea for your comment, I would love to know if you are making or plan to make a medallion quilt (if you have a blog, I will come visit). Now, I usually respond to all comments, but due to high volume (thanks, Julie!), I will not be able to respond to all.

Be sure and come back again,
Sharon

What an excellent job you did with this quilt – awesome! I have no plans for a medallion quilt – I’m a rather sporadic quilter when it comes to actually sitting down to make something – spur of the moment, so one just never knows. This would be a great heirloom quilt, for sure!

  7. Allison C says:

All the inspirational medallion quilts I have seen on blogs really has me thinking about making one. It might be a little while though because I’m really trying to finish all the projects I have now BEFORE I start another. I am weak though…

From the beginning I’ve thought that there was a “blendy” look to this quilt, which maybe is a nicer word than “mushy,” lol! Right now, I have no plans to make this one, but who knows, if I win, I may change my mind! In any case, I really like your floral feature fabric, and it all pulled together beautifully.

I HAVE bought fabric for Sue Garman’s Stars for a New Day, the 2009 TQS BOM, which was also a medallion quilt, but I still have a lot of other projects to get through first!

  16. I fall in love with every new medallion quilt I see. Yours is beautiful! I would love to try my hand at one!
