This Hexigon quilt top was made by my mom. It is a totally different palette than she usually uses and I am crazy about it! the turquoise, lime and gray are sooooo pretty together and there is such a fun assortment of offbeat fabric prints.
She is so daring, just throws a collection together and it always look fabulous! I am going to quilt this for her in exchange for borrowing it for a bit to enjoy.
People say that sewing hexagons is addictive. I think my mom has caught the bug….
She is going to make a “low volume” version next and cut this stack tonight after raiding my (extensive) stash of low volume novelty prints. It should be a super fun quilt.
note: these hexagons are six inches. She traces around a template with pencil on the back of the fabric to create the “sewing line” and then cuts them out 1/4 inch outside of the drawn line. When piecing them together, the drawn line becomes a guide for the set-in seam. The top above was machine pieced.
I think it’s contagious. I got out some old reproduction ’30s prints to play with too…
I made these two, experimenting with adding a solid border. They are cute!

Love the turquoise, lime and gray combination in your mom’s hexi quilt top. I never caught the hexi bug when it first went around, but I think the larger ones are something I could get into. Meanwhile, I will admire yours and your mom’s!
Hexagons always look nice! And there are so many ways to play with them, I like the way you added borders, I’m curious to see how you’re going to sew them together.
